Reimbursement of transport costs

Are you no longer able to make your own way to medical treatment or therapy sessions due to illness or accident? Or do you regularly provide transport for a private individual? Find out who is entitled to help with transport to therapy appointments and what costs are covered.

What is transport to therapy appointments?

People aren’t always able to drive themselves to appointments following an accident or a stay in hospital, or if they have a serious medical condition. It can be difficult for them to attend treatments such as physiotherapy, chemotherapy, dialysis, radiotherapy or occupational therapy on their own. Transport to therapy appointments provides them with valuable support.

Public or private transport

You can get a family member, friend, relative or neighbour to drive you, or use a professional transport service like that offered by the Swiss Red Cross or the Tixi Taxi service for wheelchair users. Alternatively, you can travel by public transport, in second class.

What transport costs are refunded?

If you have to go for frequent treatment, you can reclaim the cost of getting there by public transport from CSS. Transport services provided by companies or private individuals are also refunded.

Use of a transport service or public transport

To refund these costs, we need the bill from the transport service or the tickets for travel by public transport.

Travel provided by private individuals

We need the “Statement of transport costs” form, completed by the insured person. The refund will be paid to the insured person.

How to get your refund

You can scan the bills or the form and upload them directly to the myCSS client portal or the myCSS app. Alternatively, you can send the bills to us by post (CSS, Leistungsprüfung, Postfach 2568, 6002 Luzern) for reimbursement.

What types of insurance pay for the cost of transport?

CSS assists you with the cost of transport if that transport helps you to cut short or avoid a stay in hospital. The Economy, Balance and Premium categories of supplementary myFlex Outpatient Insurance and myFlex Hospitalisation Insurance pay a share of the cost of transport to therapy appointments.

Other forms of insurance, such as Medical Costs Insurance for Accidents or Emergency Insurance, also pay a share of the costs. myCSS lets you see exactly what benefits you are personally entitled to.
